The US Coast Guard and the Alaska Air National Guard are currently involved in a major rescue operation some 230 miles from the nearest land fall.
A Singapore Car Carrier the "Cougar Ace" some 645 feet long and carrying some 5000 cars from Japan to Canada began taking on water and listing. Currently it is resting at about a 90 degree list with the side of the ship some 150 feet out of the water.
There is reported to be 1 broken leg amoung the 22 man crew.
The USCG has dispatched the cutter Rush from it's normal Hawaiian patrol 700 miles to the north to assist. As well as deploying Alaskan based aircraft to Adak to assist. However the Alaska Air National Guard has been called in and actually airlift the crew off the vessel. Their helicopters are cabable of air refueling and making the 1000 mile journy out to the accident site.As many as 6 Air Force Para-Rescue teams may be involved in the rescue.
