Gown under fire

MISS Singapore Carol Cheong's choice of evening gown during the Miss Universe pageant in Los Angeles last week has been flamed for being outrageously distasteful.

Anonymous Coward felt that her outfit looked like cheap lingerie.

Destini thinks that Miss Singapore should have donned a traditional outfit befitting Singapore's rich heritage. She writes: "I think the gown was a mistake and not representative of us Singapore girls at all."

But JulianW disagrees: "I'm sure it made her stand out. It has ethnic details too. Controversy is one sure way to succeed. Way to go!"

Army rules OK?

SOME national servicemen and army regulars are hoping several rules can be done away with. These include not being able to use an umbrella in camp, having to book out dressed in a collared shirt and trousers, and not being able to sleep on the MRT and buses while in uniform.

Bukitimah recounts being booked for walking into camp while holding an umbrella, instead of using the army-issued raincoat. He writes: "Punishment for holding that stupid umbrella? 7 days' extra guard duties."

Seequincy01, however, says: "The army is about discipline. Some of the rules have their purposes even though they seem ridiculous."

cannot bring umbrella to camp?? That is funny. I have seen a lot of people carrying umbrella's to camp. even my division hq csm sometimes carry an umbrella....

book out with collared shirt?? hmm... i wore t shirts many times too. collared shirt only for OCT maybe??

sleeping in uniform... i know la cannot... but i have seen lots too... Laughing

And not to mention Mindef. During rainy days you can see tons of officers and personnel alike carrying an umbrella...

hahaha... seriously i didnt know there is a rule about umbrellas... Mr. Green

i)Silly rule. Never had that in my camp.
ii)Experienced it but overruled by WO in the end.
