Brand name is very important, like many ad experts say.
Fossil essentially makes crap. Their movements are seriously aftermarket pieces slapped in fancy-looking cases. On the other hand, Seiko knows watches thoroughly, and they make everything on their own, right down to the oils used in their mechanical pieces.
Bottom line - if you want a fashion piece but don't care if it's cruddy, go Fossil. If you want a real watch, go Seiko. -

do take a look at Mustaffa's at serangoon plaza (not mustaffas centre).
I recently bought a seiko watch there which was $170 cheaper than the price listed at city chain. Its exactly the same watch and quite a recent range as well.
But dun expect fantastic service, however the man that served me was very nice and helpful, not in a fake way like some salesgirls in town. -
