Well said. I agree to the fact that everyone gets their turn. =)Originally posted by spinsugar:Back to the topic > typically, groups of people who stand out with their differences in behavior/appearance etc get stereotyped in the local media (and globally too), not just Indians. Interestingly, I learnt pretty recently that even our Singaporean Indians stereotype their from-India counterparts.
The majority race (chinese) is not spared either. Common stereotypes seen on TV incl the feeble funny old chinese granny (popularlised by liang popo), the Ah Beng & Ah Lian, the SPG, among other things.
Meaning? Can u clarify?Originally posted by Solid_Snake:...bcos their actions/way of living are too predictable
its nothing racist or what. the media shows chinese people queueing for free things too.Originally posted by NirVaniC:Although I'm not Indian myself, I can't help but notice the blatant stereotypes. Its either the heavy, fake Indian accent or the bland imitation of Indian dances (Esp dancing arouund a tree). It's rather rude, considering the fact that you don't see the Chinese or Malay community being stereotypically potrayed in this manner.
And yet no one here knows anything about Bollywood. Oh right. We DONT CARE!!Originally posted by KRRISH:Bollywood is not about dancing around tree lah .. give me a single bollywood movie since 2000 which has this trend? it is Zero.
maybe those old movies from the 70s and 80s has it. but in those times ppl are narrow minded. trends have changed.
Now has Superhero, thriller, romantic drama and even about Alien ( Koi Mil Gaya - prequel to KRRISH). name it.
In the 80s:
dumb stories.
actor/ actress who look like aunties and uncles .
Reel cinematography.
Mono sound
In the 2000s
Interesting Stories .actor/ actress who look like models.
Digital cinematography .
DTS sound
Biggest improvement is the music. Presently it is all synthesised.
Due to AR Rahman who appeared too early in the early 90s revolutionised the concept of sound. If u look back, his technology is groundbreaking. It happened too early too soon.

er, hello thread starter. you go fly kite lah!Originally posted by KRRISH:
AR Rahman,? Good Question. He is a technology idealist + Composer. Something like Music Bill gates who pioneered a style of music which uses 3D accoustic effects and elaborate complicated synthesiser layering giving mood and style to a piece of song.
Before i go further, his music = imagine music in India in the year 2050. But he already started doing that in 1992.Which exactly what made him famous.
Better. His music is like very scientific stuff . Used lot of technology. Makes " industrialised " sound of the modern era. Currently some music establishments in the world are studying his music patterns. other Famous personalities in the world have been impressed with his music as well. He carefully selects his projects and people whom he works with. His entry into films was unexpected and unplanned and rather a priviledge to get him to sign a film
In the 90s Rahman made his name doing extraordinary pop songs which sounded like years in the future. even when compared to rest of the world. Gradually his styles became more diverse. In the 2000s, He's more down to earth making normal stuff rather than extraordinary. Once in a while he returns to his former glory.
When others play a flute, they just use flute . When he plays he feeds them into a computer, tweaks , and then gives a new unique sound. Plus he does some new technologically savy music stuff u wont find anywhere in the world. His biggest advantage , he mix and matches all kinds of music to come up with something new everytime which u cant classfy under a single genre.
And his sound is very clear quality and exciting.
Jus for the info u may want to hear this song which is around 8 yrs old.
The sound which it oozes is a new kind of sound athestic . Remember this was 8 yrs ago. that was 1998. The craze of latin music was around. SO AR. Rahman made a song which sounds latin but a bit of a mix of techno stuff.
The song is "Columbus Columbus" from Jeans. The background beat is like something slapping against paper. I dunno how to best describe it. Welcome to 2050. This is how music may look in 2050. But appeared in 1998.

Anyway the 90s Indian fusion era music is over. Sadly it was the best because it had the most technologically advanced indian songs by Rahman.
AR Rahman will be working with Baz Luhrmann , director of Moulin Rogue in Hollywood next.
Here is the excerpt:
Comment from Baz Luhrmann
"I had come to the music of AR Rahman through the emotional and haunting score of 'Bombay' and the wit and celebration of 'Lagaan'. But the more of AR's music I encountered the more I was to be amazed at the sheer diversity of styles: from swinging brass bands to triumphant anthems; from joyous pop to West-End musicals ('Bombay Dreams'). Whatever the style, AR Rahman's music always possesses a profound sense of humanity and spirit, qualities that inspire me the most." Baz Luhrmann, noted Film Director, Sydney (Australia), 14-July-2005.
