Accidentially change file extension

  I accidentially change a file extension to .exe! How do i change it back...no matter how i change the file extension it still a .exe file

  open windows explorer, go to tools->folder option.
  uncheck hide extensions for known file types.
  now, rename.

  go to command prompt and use the REN command.
