Waste of money and is it really needed?

Just because of a World event that is going to last few days, singapore need to spend so much money to look good.
BUt if you think of it, i think singapore public roads are already so much better than most developed countries.
How much better they want to look?

touch up...make swee swee...
think about it...if don't have the world meeting...the government oso not really bother to revamp the roads and re-paint all those cracking spots...
now got chance...let them touch up lor... -
is that the reasonw why the overhead bridge downstairs had a repaint when its nothing wrong at all?

Singapore is now desperately fighting to gain world status and recognisation. Yes, though world class (well, as many claims it to be), still not many countries trust the small island to be able to hold world events and meetings.
Well, as you can see, Spore is improving. But on what basis? Piles and piles of money? -
But even when there's no IMF, Singapore is still repairing it's roads and pavements, including of these repainting of flyovers and application of the protection coating.

COme on it sure feels good living in a beautiful city... its not like we can't afford it... It doesn't cost much anyway... Not like rebuilding the entire suntex or something.

I know. I'm saying that since Singapore still do these regular maintainences and stuffs, they're just putting a little bit more during this event. I think it all boils down to Sillypore wanting face...its an Asian thing....the Western visitors will not bother about these trivial 'looking good' stuff and see thru it. They are more concerned about more important issues like world monetary policies.....

Repaving a lane of the road about 100 metres can easily go into low 6 digits.
Correct me if I am wrong, but i think you have not felt the pinch of paying taxes, working to make ends meet to sustain a decent life in Singapore.
But when it comes to a point where you think you are victimised by government's tax policies, you will start wondering why you don't get a share of govt's money but instead they go to repaving roads.
