About the taking down IMEI *06*#
Though it can work in theory. Singapore Telcos and Police haven't embarked on a plan to disable such phones. Also people who steal such phones are skilled enough to erase IMEI from the phone.
It is only recently the Phone makers are cooperating to standardise the kind of memory the IMEI is stored in. They are planning on a phone where the IMEI is un-erasable, but also dsiables the phones when an attempt to erase it is detected.
The most Singpaore Telcos can do now is to prevent anyone to register a new line with a blacklisted IMEI.
As things stand today, Telco's equipment can detect that the blacklisted IMEI is in used within the network. but they are not taking action just yet. -
Let's just all pray the telcos here don't embark on network locking their phones.
