a prefect steals from her classmate. teacher wanted to search the locker, she say nvr bring key. Teacher got master key, open locker, found wallet. Student claims that she was teaching the other student a lesson. No punishment could be meted out, cos parents believed their child was right.
student make noise in class, never hand in homework. teacher cannot scold, cos principal say cannot. cannot use physical punishment, even standing up in class is not allowed. Asking student to stand outside class oso not allowed. She tells student to sit down. Student reply, my parents paying your salary, I ask my parents complain u lose your job. -
let me cite another case tat happened wayback when i was in primary 1...tis happened to my classmate...
we were having chinese lesson in class n we were sitting in front of the class listening to the teacher...then just as the teacher was explaining sth halfway, my classmate who wanted to say sth interrupted her. the teacher was angry tat he interrupted her like tat without raising his hands 1st. she scolded him n ordered him to stand at the back of the class n do recitation. he was to recite " i must raise my hands if i want to speak" in chinese. while tis may seem an ok punishment, it muz be noted tat he was punished for the rest of the period. i estimate it was abt half an hour. at the end, he was physically tired out from all the recitation. was the punishment too harsh? did he deserve such harsh punishment? 2 pts to note...
1) he was onli a primary 1 student
2) it was the 1st time he was punished for such an offence.

some teachers can go phuck themselves. I wish i went into NS FIRST BEFORE going to school...then i would know how to deal with those teachers...

I suppose practically all the teachers haf lost their professionalism in teaching already larh.. i mean, educators in the past used to haf a passion for teaching and will always haf the patience to imparting their knowledge to their students, to the extent of controlling their temper and not losing it..
But i guess it ain't the way it is now.. and of course.. i dun tink that punishing them harshly will solve the problem la.. practically it will only make the student hate the particular teacher.. and not forgetting the subject the teacher is teaching.. moreover, the student may become more rebellious and influence other students alongside to create for troubles for the teacher in future..
However, dun forget that the students nowadayz are being very rebellious and can easily get out of hand... i mean, juz look at those secondary or primary school kids.. and i suppose it's not up to their parents to take discipline into their own hands.. i tink teachers haf a part to play too..
But no matter wad, i still feel that teachers are NOT allowed to punish students harshly.. it will only show how uncivilised such educators are, instead of portraying them as passionate as we imagined... -
Some people who become teachers is because they wanted to clear their bond to the govt. But they have never thought that they have to face so much problems. Some other people think that being a teacher is a iron bowl job, just teach and get money at the end of the month.
How many teachers can claim that it because of a passion of teaching that they wanted to become a teacher? -
well, from my experiences in sch, its stil proven to me tat female teachers r more 'creative' in punishing students...they r the ones who inflict punishments which r more psychological rather than physical...when i was in primary sch, i encountered several female teachers who had a wide variety of punishments. they include things like ear-pulling, standing wif book on top of ur head, recitation(repeating a statement again n again until they tell u to stop), doing half-squats while pulling ur ears, slapping urself, walking up n down the corridor for 1 whole period cos u were caught walking ard the class without permission...i myself was a victim of a few of these...
i recall an incident in primary sch...it was during a prize presentation rehearsal...when we went to the hall for rehearsal, we saw 2 boys each standing at 1 corner of the stage on top pulling their ears...we later found out tat they were being punished by the teacher-in-charge of the rehearsal. to make it worse, the teacher made them stand facing us. we could see how embarrassed they were. n the teacher kept thenm there thru out the entire rehearsal!!! so while we were rehearsing, those 2 boys were being punished. can u imagine how embarrassed they muz have felt?? n how tired they muz have been for standing for such a long period??? again, it was done by a female teacher...hmmm...y do female teachers seem to believe in psychological punsihments rather than physical ones? -
I had a friend who sued his teacher when he was in primary school. Apparently, the teacher got angry at him and slapped my friend's back. My friend retaliated and told the teacher "I'm going to ask my mother to sue you!"
Next thing you know, his mom brought him to the hospital to verify his injuries and the teacher got sued and couldn't continue this teaching career. -
When I was in primary sch, my teacher used to grab our heads by our hair and shake it back and forth violently, while chanting the words: nggh nggh nggh nggh ah gong ah! Everytime we forget to do homework or bring something. Traumatising.

Last week my school got a few pple kena caned for gang banging 1 sec 2 boy. That guy got whacked by them until go hospital. What a violent school. I now go school oso very scared.....

let me cite a personal case that happened to me n few of my classmates...
it was in primary 3 when these cases happened...we had a chinese teacher who was pretty strict wif noise level...she was nice but didnt like us to tok in class...so she made it a pt to punish whoever were caught toking in class...there were several occassions when several of us got caught...the teacher would call us out, make us stand facing the class n raise both our hands straight up...she will make us stay in tat position for at least 10-15min b4 sending us back to our seats...
while the punishment usually didnt last very long, it muz be noted tat we always went back to our seats wif aching arms...the teacher was very strict wif punishments...she would make sure our hands stayed rite up until the end of it all(each time she caught us wif our hands nt raised properly, she will scold us n the punishment may be prolonged)...after which we will go back n complete our work...it was tough doing our work wif aching arms...though the punishment was harsh n shameful(in front of whole class), it proved quite effective as most of us dared nt tok in class after tat...
again it was a female teahcer who meted out tis creative punishment... -

i personally feel she meant well...the punishment was harsh; i was a victim to it once...but come to tink of it...toking in class is a common thing to do in class...the teacher had to tink for those students who were busy doing thier work quietly...besides, she was harsh but nt unreasonable...she would nt overdo the punishment...none of us ever went back in tears from the aching n pain inflicted on us...our arms were painful but stil bearable...there were of cuz repeated offenders who were unrepentant despite 1st punishment...the teacher would mete out the same punishment but wif a longer duration...a few of my classmates who went thru tis had to keep their hands straight up for almost entire period...u could the grimace on some of their faces after more than 15min...usually the teacher will onli release them after punishing them for close to half an hr n making them promise not to tok in class again...
i recall a case in fact where a talkative student who had been punished a few times b4 for toking was caught toking away in class again...infuriated, the teacher ordered him to the front...but tis time she made the student bring his sch bag along to the front...after scolding him a while, she ordered him to stand next to her table n carry his schbag above his head, keeping his hands straight up...it was a painful experience for the student...in less than 10min, he was alredi grimacing from the pain but the teacher ignored his grimace n ordered his hands to remain straight up...tis was the onli incident during tat yr tat the teacher showed no mercy...in the end, the teacher onli released the student when she saw tears rolling down his eyes...she gave him a stern warning tat if he disrupted the class again, she will make him knee-bend n carry his bag above his head for the entire lesson...
it appears clear to me tat the teacher did tat for our own gd...she was juz doing her job to educate us on the rite values in classroom...
it is interesting though how the teacher got started on tis method of punishment...will tok abt tis in my next post.. -
I believe teacher should be allowed to punish student in school, but not "harshly" as stated on the topic title.
Infact the topic title is acting like a trap that only allow you to disagree or be called a dictator.

Student these day are not like those from my time. They openly rebel against authority, not because they were mistreated but because it is consider to be "cool" for not obeying the Law/grown-up. They also know they are safe because of loop holes Law and Human Rights.
Yes, when respect cannot be earn only fear will rule them. Just like religion instill the fear of retribution into its followers.
Public caning and public recitation of their crimes should be allowed in school. -
hello i am back again!!! thank you redness for responding n sharing ur tots...as i promised in my earlier post, tis was how the punishment method got started...
it all began wif a boy n gal...they were nt among those wom u would call as gd students...they didnt have gd grades n were slow in their studies...the teacher was well aware of tat...wad happened was, one day after the teacher gave us work to do, the boy n gal were playing a fool wif each other...cun remember the exact details but their actions angered the teacher...
the teacher then called both of them to the front n scolded them...she scolded them for playing afool in class despite the fact tat they were nt doing well in their studies...she ordered them to stand facing whole class n after a slight pause, ordered them to raise both their hands straight up...she then proceeded to mark her bks, scolding them in the process...
in the end, both students were punished for abt 15 min...they went back to their seats, arms aching terribly...the teacher made sure their hands were kept straight up thru out...after tis incident, the teacher announced to the class tat from then on, any students who disturb the class will be punished in tat manner...so tat was how tis punishment got started...

ok to add on, i was also punished once for toking in class...we were doing our work when i felt the urge to tok to the one next to me...so i turn n started toking softly...unfortunately, the class was very quiet tat day n my soft voice sounded loud enuff for the teacher to hear. the rest of the story is history...i was called to the front n yes, was ordered to stand facing class wif both hands raised straight up...my frend wasnt caught as the teacher caught me b4 he could reply to me...so in the end, i had to stand in front of whole class all alone...
anyone had experiences of being punished alone in front of class? -

Infact I had numerous, I can say these punishment are showing the effect but possitive and negative.
I grow up to be more discipline then I was as a kid, the side effect is I am very hard on anyone else that is misbehaving. Call it a "tradition of violence". heh

The mildest was order to stand outside the class room holding my schoolbag over my head for forgoting to bring my homework.
Serious case was public caning by the headmaster infront the class. The offence was accidently broke the class window while playing fight in the class with some friend. I thrown my metal pencil box and it miss my friend and shattered one of the windows in the classroom. That was a dumb mistake on my part. -

since you want psychological...i dunno if this is much but my pri 2 teacher used to scold everyone no matter the offence stupid...idiot...no brain, inside your head only got tau huay and called us all devils etc repeated everyday -.- she was asked to leave soon after however
and my friends school had this teacher who scolded f word all the time in class -
i rmb once when i was talking to mi teacher and i spit to the ground floor. then mi teacher 'eh wad u doing?' then the om walk pass us and mi teacher told him. and he say cwo. i opt for caning. caning is way better than cwo.

Actually more interestingly, what sort of punishments do u think a teacher SHOULD mete out that is EFFECTIVE?
For...
1) Not doing homework
2) Not being responsible -i.e. never bring textbook when told
3) Rudeness
4) Repeatedly talking in class
5) More serious stuff such as stealing, fighting, gambling etc.
Of course the punishments for Primary and Secondary sch wld be different. so what do u suggest? -
During Primary 2 ,
i was talking to tis girl in my class , teacher caught us and punish us by holding each other tougue for the rest of the lesson, if i am not wrong the both of us keep laughing and our hands is filled with each other 's saliva . Come to think of it now i missed those day hahas anyway i saw the girl recently and she is quite chio now
