i was talking to tis girl in my class , teacher caught us and punish us by holding each other tougue for the rest of the lesson, if i am not wrong the both of us keep laughing and our hands is filled with each other 's saliva . Come to think of it now i missed those day hahas anyway i saw the girl recently and she is quite chio now -
there was this news article in the straits times...
in china a male teacher kicked and whacked a student with a steel bar. when the girl become motionless, he picked her up and told the class that he was going to bring her to the school clinic. but right after that he went to the window and tossed the girl out.
according to the straits times the girl died and her classmates who saw the incident ran out of the classroom crying.

3) Rudeness

well. at least u were able to cheat...for my case, there was no way we could cheat...we were made to stand next to teacher's table in class...under her supervision, theres was no way we could cheat at all...tats y even though duration of punishment was nt long but we often went back to our seats wif tired n aching arms...

Yes, I advocate that teachers should be restored the right to mete out corporal punishment but not for schools of higher learning lah where the students should be old enough to regulate their own livesoredi, say junior college and above. For pri + sec schools, teachers should whack the hell outta pupils who are ill-disciplined.....!

Well, from all teachers whom i have come across so far...the one who made my frend do recitation for rest of lesson(refer to my much earlier post) is the strictest n harshest of all...although she hardly sent anyone to the DM or principal, she was known for long durations in punishments n shameful ones as well...very often her punishments would last for almost whole lesson if nt whole lesson...n we were onli in primary one then...
for myself, i was once made to stand for the entire lesson for toking..some of my classmates were made to stand in front of class for almost the entire lesson wif their mouths taped up...her punishments r less painful/tiring, mostly shameful...
abt the teacher who meted out the slapping punishment(see 1st post), she doesnt usually punish for long periods...n in tat yr, her punishments were mostly juz standing outside class...onli tat slapping incident plus another incident did she mete out sth diff. for tat incident, she ordered my classmate who was caught toking to stand facing whole class n pull his ears...he was utterly embarrassed...in fact tat was onli time she did tat for toking offences, she wasnt usually particular abt noise level...prob. got out on wrong side of bed tat day... -
hi...yup juz to add on...the harshest teacher i mentioned in my previous post was also known for corporate punishments...she would punish whole class corporately if whole class misbehaves...there were several incidents when we were made to hold our textbks between our teeth for toking...so while the teacher was teaching, we had to bite our textbks...at times, she will make us balance our textbks on our heads...these usually happened when whole class was making a lot of noise.
overall, i would still say tat female teachers r more creative in meteing out punishments...the teacher above is prob. the most creative i have met...she meted out punishments u may nvr have heard of...
i remember another case where a boy wouldnt sit still in his seat...this teacher ordered him to the front n made him sit next to teacher's table n rub his butt to n fro against the floor without stopping...though it didnt last long(less than 5 min), the boy broke down as he felt so embarrassed...the teacher let him off onli after he promised to sit still in his seat... -

well, so far the onli punishments i come across where the kids almost died r the ones like the recitation, which lasted abt half an hour n standing for whole lesson...i myself almost died when i stood for whole lesson in tat teacher's class...was onli primary one kid tat time u noe...my legs were hurting like crazy...
then there were also my classmates who had to endure similar punishments... -
so then after reading all the posts so far, do u forumers tink tat punishments in school shld be harsh? shld they be psychological, physical or both? or do u tink punishments shld be abolished altogether since they dun achieve anything?

could also be coz that teachers nowadays are quite lenient compared to teachers during my parent's time. (1970s)

I think China teachers are damn violent. When i was in sec 2, i had this chinese teacher frm china who would kick students and punch them for every little thing. He insulted s'poreans by saying: "s'poreans are all dogs" but in the end, he got punched in e face by a student. Not long after, he was sacked.
when i was in Sec 3, me and my fren was canned in class for going to the toilet without permission after a period had ended.. -

wif reference to the case i mentioned above, do u tink our chinese teacher was too harsh wif us primary one kids back then? do u tink she shld have been more lenient wif her punishments? i personally felt the recitation one was rather harsh...recitation is ok but the duration was too long...
personally, i feel teachers shld mete out punishments according to the age of the students...shameful ones can be meted out to younger students but nt very suitable for older students...however, in terms of duration, longer punishments shld be used on older/undeterring students...younger students shld be treated kinder wif shorter punishments... -

1st case
student caught spewing vulgarities..
[/b]punishment: slapping himself in front of whole class followed by caning from DM
2nd case
student interrupted teacher without raising his hands for permission to speak
punishment: stand at the back of class n recite: "i muz raise my hand b4 i speak" for entire lesson
3rd case
any student caught toking in class..
punishment: student made to stand in front of whole class n raise both hands straight up for at least 10-15 min...
in which of these cases was the punishment appropriate n deserving?[/u] -
YES!!but only people who have very poor English like you should be punished harshly...

a student is punished toking n using vulgarities in class...
punishment: stand in front of whole class wif one hand raised, the other hand slapping himself n reciting at the same time: "i muz nt tok or use vulgarities in class." duration is for half an hour...
i cun imgine the torment n suffering the student will go thru...nt to say the least, the after effects of the punishment...

it appears there was a teacher who meted out sadistic punishments to her students...unlike most teachers, her basic punishment doesnt involve standing at all. her basic punishment is to make students kneel on the hard floor n pull their ears. tis she would do to those who tok in class, didnt hand up work or didnt bring their books. the duration is usually for the whole lesson.
for repeated offenders, the teacher would mete out even harsher/sadistic punishments. she would either make the students kneel on bottle caps or marbles n pull their ears...other times she would make them carry their school bags above their heads. there were even occasions when students were asked to knee-bend for entire lesson wif bags above their heads.
students who were punished were often left crying at the end. from wad i noe, few were ever able to withstand the torture n sadistic punishments. even though the punishments were effective(cos students hardly dared to repeat their offences), students often lived in fear of tis teacher.
i personally feel tis teacher was way off. wad do u tink? -

Bcos nowsaday students extremely naughty and bad, parents also cannont control, spoilt their child..that's why teacher no choice got to punish them. If not bcos of pay, no one wants to become teachers. Am i right, teachers. Keep complaining teachers, teachers dont work lor..let sg filled with the Lians and the Bengs fight and fuck till no tomorrows
