A NIGHT of merrymaking turned sour for one party-goer last weekend.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, his night of boozing and dancing turned ugly when another party-goer allegedly threw a glass at him, narrowly missing his eye and nearly blinding him.
Dr Mildred Ong, the mother of the 29-year-old man, was so enraged by the incident that she sent an e-mail to her friends telling them about it.
She wishes that Singapore would set up an anger management facility for such behaviour.
And it was these friends, who, with good-intentions, forwarded the e-mail to alert The New Paper.
As one sender put it, the aim was to warn others of such incidents.
Dr Ong is married to Dr Ong Leong Boon, an orthopaedic surgeon. He was an MP of Kim Seng constituency in the '70s.
When contacted, the mother declined to talk, saying that the police are investigating.
She would only say that her son is recovering well.
Her son also declined to speak, only saying that he is resting well and that his eye is bandaged for now.
In her e-mail, she described the incident as that of 'a random guy (who) whacked a glass into his (her son's) face, caught his eye and the force chipped a bit off his orbit. Thank God his actual eye was spared.'
Zouk's spokesman, Ms Tracy Philips, confirmed that a fight broke out in the Zouk area of the establishment and that the incident was caught on the area's CCTV.
She would only say that the management is cooperating with the police.
Police spokesman Mohd Razif said they received a call about the fight on Sunday at about 2.35am.
He said: 'As a result of the fight, a 29-year-old man suffered injuries above his right eye and was sent to the hospital.
'Investigations are ongoing.'
