The interview did highlighted one bias thing about Hollywood.
They still treat Asians as second class actors.
Unless the asian is a fighter or a *%!@, they are unable to break into the big screen.

Great, I will help you pack ....Originally posted by Coquitlam:Bottomline is SG always picks the most bimbo or stupid personality to represent SG...Why can't they pick someone with more intellect instead of someone who only looks good and can only utter shallow statements....
then again....no point defending SG....if this country wants to continue being a bimbo state...let it be...No wonder foreigners always see SG as a shallow country....I'm out of here

Who cares about Singaporean watching it? If you follow or have some reading comprehension, you'll realise most of the posters are concerned about the face of Singapore portrayed to the rest of the world.Originally posted by dracky:Why do you guys care so much about a BBC program? It's not even shown in Singapore unless you subscribe to it. And if a BBC program wants to interview an actress and hope to elicit some insights on Singapore society, the program host is a dim-wit who has no clue about the status of Fann Wong in intellectual circles.
Hey, what's wrong with wanting a Prada?Originally posted by pwnz0r:Who cares about Singaporean watching it? If you follow or have some reading comprehension, you'll realise most of the posters are concerned about the face of Singapore portrayed to the rest of the world.
BBC is still a widely watched program throughout the world, and many viewers have little idea about what Singapore really is. Many only know Singapore to be a Chinese town in Southeast Asia. The term SEA makes many think of Indonesia or Malaysia where people have little freedom or rights.
Fann Wong did little to present a better or 'truer' view of Singapore, especially given this was such a good opportunity to do so. I agree that Diana Ser is a more international savvy persona and would have been a great interviewee. You have to admit that Fann is kinda, well, shallow. All she cares about is her paycheck tomorrow, whether her hair looks great, should she stop by Prada later or buy a new BMW.
Do young people approve of Singapore being too restrictive or do they want greater freedom?
Well, my opinion is that young people here tend to be politically apathetic. No thanks to the govt having done such a wonderful job........in restricting the media and political podcasts over the internet. There are a number who are dissatisfied with the tight rein this govt has held and are looking forward to a change. Sad to say, this is very unlikely for the next 10 years at least. Awareness of politics amongst the young is growing though.
So it's inevitable that Singapore will become more relaxed?
It will.....but not that much....as long as the ruling party is still at the helm. They always have a way to right the wrongs and wrong the right, so...we are in a bit of a political and social retardation, if you know what I mean.
But will young people have the patience to wait?
We don't have a choice! It is this long wait which forces a lot of us into political apathy. One cannot really voice netizen views via the media and cannot organise talks crtiticising the govt. Only option is to join an opposition party and await their chance every 5 years of election. To even dream of an opposition party seizing power in our lifetime..... may after all, be only a dream.
Everything works in Singapore. There's a resort feel and there's cleanliness. But does it ever get on your nerves? Because it seems almost perfect?
You bet! It does get on my nerves. It's really a joy filming in other countries, seeing student demonstations and unorderly roads etc, just reinforces my belief that this world finds beauty in imperfection. Just take a cab out of Changi Airport and you will see this long....long....long stretch of road where the trees are all of the same breed and the same size. It's not coincidental but done on purpose to impress. Well, nothing wrong, just that it irritates me hahaha.
