Funny you never put motherboard into the list.
Laptop are built to be compact and their choice of motherboards are not so universal. Therefore, it is good to choose one which allows the most number and types of upgrades.
Graphic card is very important, as it is almost impossible to switch to a dedocated pro graphic card if you started out with a on-board.
The importance of RAM exist in all types of computers. They are randomly accessed, so when you are switching between applications, some programs actually 'give up' their share for others. So no matter how great your hardwares are, they will be trash if they have to wait for your RAM. Make sure you motherboard supports AT LEAST 2GB of maximum RAM upgrade.
