MDA: late payment fee of $25 for TV license?!

Wow, was really shocked to find a $25 late payment fee for an original payable tv license fee of $110.
Though it was indeed my fault that I had overlooked payment, is it justifiable for me to be penalised like this?
Just to warn others not to delay payment, as such a fee levied is really outrageous, esp for those who are in a state of poverty. I really wonder how they can justify for such a penalty. -

Forget to pay? Ignorance is not an excuse....come...PAPa slap you with a penalty fine + you still have to pay for your license...

I am not disputing abt a late payment fee, but rather, the amount of it. Perhaps a nominal fee of ard $5 will be more appropriate for a deterrent/warning.
Imagine for a poor family who can't pay for 4 times, the penalty fee will be abt the same as the tv license fee! That's a heavy burden. They only allow 2 weeks for you to pay before another late payment fee is charged. -
You think yours is bad? This guy got it even worse.... got fined for NOT paying his TV license even though he didn't have a TV...

RECENTLY I received a summons sent by the Media Development Authority (MDA) for having a 'broadcast television receiver without a valid licence'.
I called up Licensing Services (Broadcasting) to inform the staff that I have not had any television set in my house from at least last year, so how could I be guilty of the offence?
An officer from the licensing unit told me: 'You did not inform us that you did not have a television set, so you have to pay the fine.'
I asked: 'So I am being fined for not having a television set?'
She replied: 'Yes, if you did not tell us that you didn't have a television set, you have to pay the fine.'
The offence is one of having a TV without a licence but I am being penalised for not telling the MDA that I did not have a TV set.
Is this how our government departments work? They penalise you for not telling them what you don't have.

well, if u bother, u can write in to appeal to waive the late payment fee.....
jus say that ur mom does not read english well and u are not aware that the fee is due and realised it much later
they will waive one lah
jus that u have to spend time to write the appeal letter loh.......for the $25........ -
