why is in canal ear phones called so?

  If in canal ear phones does not provide better isolation then IEMs... implies that it doesn't realli goes deep into the canal so why isit in canal ear phones?? can someone enlighten me?

  I use Etymotics ER6i for my ipod. very good. jitao on the bus or mrt cannot hear the noisy girls and aunties yapping away.

  perhaps my phrasing is bad.. but my qs is since there are IEMs and in canal earphones in the market... y not just unify them? y bother calling one grp IEMs and the other in canal??

  ah a fellow IEM user... me using UM1.. can't even hear the bus engine beneath me =D

  dunno, i just got the sony ex71 to use on my N80, now the damn radio sounds alot better.
  
  If not previously, could hardly hear with the original headset provided.

  N 80 is nokia phone right?? i thought the audio jack required is diff for handphones..??

  but wats embarrasdsing is when u r eating some crispy bread... the sound of every bite sounds so amplified that u thinks thats the sound that pple are hearing... end up taking more than 10 mins to finsh a bread...
