SIA checked in another's luggage in man's name
MY WIFE and I were scheduled to travel on Singapore Airlines flight SQ168 to Jakarta at 9.15pm on Aug 8.
When we arrived at the check-in counter at 8pm, to our surprise, we were told by the airport staff that there were three pieces of luggage weighing a total of 60kg already checked in under my name! I explained that I had not checked in any luggage that day.
The officer looked surprised, did not know how to proceed and a supervisor came over to assist. After investigation, they confirmed that one of their staff members had checked in the luggage under the wrong passenger's name. They then discussed what to do, and even thought of asking all passengers to alight from the plane so the real owner of the luggage could be identified.
After 45 minutes, we were told they had resolved the issue, and were escorted to the waiting lounge immediately to avoid missing our plane.
I am not sure of the security implications of carrying wrongly checked-in luggage to another country. But I wish to let the public know that at least one instance of wrongly checked-in luggage has happened at Changi Airport.
