Unmarried couple can't stay in the same room in China?

  I hear my friend said unmarried couple can't stay in the same room in China?
  
  What about unmarried Singapore couple go to China?
  In this case, when they book hotel, they have to book 2 seperate room? wtf!
  
  It's that true?
