Buy 2 pcs of cake and put into the bowl. Don't give money.
Some are not real also....saw one "nun" with streaks of orange colour in her hair. -
open up your mouth and say "SIAM LARH, DUN COME HERE AND CHEAT MONEY"...

I dun think monks & nuns here practice asking for alms. Even if for alms, they will ask for food, never for money. Moreover, many of these monks & nuns don't look local ~ no way am i gonna supplement their "spending" money here.
I always shake my head or hand - thus far, all of them just walked quietly away for fear of trouble. Its easy money for them, almost no costs to get the robe / shave head / get a bowl, etc.
I think no demand no supply, they will disappear if everybody stops giving them money. -
just ignore, walk away, if need to be, give an icy stare back at them.

I heard that the rightful practice of alms collection is only done in the early morning, not afternoon or during lunchtime. And collection of alms is food donations not money.

real monks and nuns wait for people to give them alms, sometimes in exchange, they give you a amulet or something
but the thing is, they won't ask for it

Ask me - just ignore them. They are not real monks or nuns.
Last Sat when I was at the United Square, 2 young ah bengs approached me. Introducing themselves as volunteers, they asked for donation for which money will be going to help the old and needy. Then they showed me the "approved license". They did not expect me to read it carefully - there was a company name imprinted "FRS Pte Ltd". After questioning them what is a private company doing in this charity project, they just said its their "Agent".
I told them immediately that I am a volunteer and had provided donations and clothings to charities in other countries. They walked off after that. It really upsets me that people are still openly "cheating" kind people's money despite the NKF case.
After observing them some time, no one is buying their story after all.
I don't know what is the law here doing - private companies are behind the "charities". -

If the monk / nun is really persistent, I'll ask them which organisation / temple they're from.. if they drop a name, I'll say "oh ok, I'll make a direct donation when my money comes in." .. if they can't name, I'll tell them I regularly donate to temples/buddhist organisations already. =p

i will tell them im a christian and scold them for believing in buddhism. and they will go to hell and burn for all eternity.

I have seen PRC monks shop at Cold Storage when doing their grocery shopping.

anyway, my friend in Thailand told me, if in Thailand you meet monks, go to the nearest market and buy them something, for example watermelon..
if they willingly carry it back all the way to their temple, they're real

You should ask them for permits etc and see whether they are genuine. Lots of fake monks around. Most monks do not ask for alms outside.
