i agree

and i admit im one too.
i think it boils down to a few reasons. i have this feeling( may not be entirely right or applies to all) that this kind of reaction has something to do with face. im not sure how right i am but sometimes i do feel that way. its because we as singaporeans are a bunch of attention-unseeking people so we try not to direct attention to ourselves. by going out of the way to help someone else, we may be somewhat directing attention to ourselves and people will tend to look at what we are doing. for example if we give up our seat, then pple will look at us that kind of mentality. worse still, if we kana rejected, then its kinda embarrassing, so we rather not do it. that's what i think, not sure how true it is.
or another reason, is the nonchalence of singaporeans. some singaporeans have the thinking that other people will do it, so why me and it ends up that no one does the job. like one instance i was on the bus to school and there were many of us alighting at the same stop but noone pressed the bell when we were approaching the stop and in the end, all of us missed the stop. it turned out that everyone thought that someone else would press the bell and in the end, no one did and all of us, from the same school had to walk back one stop.
maybe singaporeans are selfish people. ill admit that im one too. we get a seat and we want the seat, even if someone may need it more than we do. like i sometimes, feel like not giving up my seat because i just feel like sitting down.
just my one cent's worth
