Help!!

This morning, I log onto my home PC as usual, and tried to open the Internet browser. It opened, but after a few seconds, it shut down by itself!! am now using my laptop, but still, its urgent!!
Anyone knows what happen? How can I rectify it? -
1) What software application is running on Windows Background?
Reason: Loading too many application on Win Background yends to use a lot of memories. Got to try disabling some of the Software to load at startup.
2) IE got problem. Suspect some software is crashing with IE
3) Try using blank web adress, if still cannot, re-install IE.
4) Go windows Update.
