count me in.....life is hard everywhere, but at least to where most of us ex-sporeans are going, there is lots of land, more flexibility and better opportunities.....

its so true but most incumbent sillyporeans are like little frogs, simmering in the stew pot and not knowing anything until its too late....boiled frogs....
This is so true when all the Indian and Chinese nationals come here to take away jobs, ruin marriages, and work hharder than sillyporeans to create their own wealth....At least they have their own homeland to go back to...what about the simmering frogs? Better work harder like never before or else sillyporeans will be taking orders soon from all the Indian and PRC towkays...I admire them....their work rate is No.1 Look at Shanghai and Bangalore....bright shining examples of prosperity and growth.. -

Well I think certain logic works both ways... We don't like the idea of foreigners coming to our land and taking up our jobs... so the same thing applies if we migrate to other countries too... the locals over there wouldn't like us to snatch their jobs away from them...
Don't tell me that people from some other countries welcome foreigners.... if they can do so graciously, why can't we? You want others to welcome you to their house, but you don't welcome others to yours?
**Actually, the bottomline is study hard, work hard, perform well and earn your worth... only worthless people are feeling lost because they know that they are losing out to the competition but they aint gonna do anything about it.... -

The problem with singapore is that this country is too small, has no resources to relies on and therefore everythings have to relies on its people. So I'm working towards settling abroad as well. The open ocean is not for everybody of course, but then the little stream is just not for me. =) Perhaps it's coz I got to travel the globe since I was a child, but I see myself as a citizen of the world and not of Singapore. *wanderlust* It makes so much of a difference when ur eyes are open.
The Indian and Chinese nationals are just doing what we're doing - going abroad in pursuit of their dreams. They're just different people, frm diff cultures. I understand that, and I don't share the common small-town resentment many Singaporeans have towards them. -
It depends on what platform the country offers. Given equal opportunities between the locals and foreign talents in singapore is not the way forward though we depend heavily on human resources due to the lack of natural resources. It should be noted that piority should be given to the locals and shouldn't be compromised.
Jobs in australia, canada and US are given to their locals. If one cant even compete with indian/chinese/* nationals in our own turf.... I'm just wondering how good will be the chances of winning at foreign turf?
Their work rate is no 1 cause we only want no 1 to be here... not no 2 not 3. Think of not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.
You can migrate all you want but at a new country, you want their land, resources and if you dont get them, you want to migrate to yet another country. Before you know it, you are still at square 1 because your life revolves around the circle(migrating from places to places) unless you change your attitude towards singapore. No country is perfect
Let me give you another experiment. You put some rats inside a really huge box, so huge such that when the scientist put a bit of food at one corner. However none of the rats found the food and all died. -

best part is some of us are already citizens of both sides....
to some other readers out there...take a good hard look at why we don't welcome FTs so readily as other countries...and that's for the simple fact that there is more to go around even if other countries welcome FTs in and its culture....even if China or India or the US or Australia or even Europe accepts in Fts, ther can and the biggest glaring difference is that Singapore can't afford too...there is also the kiasu, save face, me first, paper only emphasis that will see singapore stagnating....
Malaysia and China, even if they are asian countries too who value face, they will push ahead and progress through due to their sheer size, weight and numbers....it's that simple...Singapore will just be a bright shining star that will fade away in what...20-30 years from now....China, India, the U.S. will still be around 200-300 years from now....
End of the day, we are all global citizens...borders, or the concept of staying in just one country is rubbish, as time goes by, more and more people will just hop around the world to their convenience and that's teh way it should be...I'd rather be loyal to Planet earth than to just some border artificially created by war, politics, changing times....borders are there to make politicians' lives easier for administration purposes...not the man on the man on teh streets..
So I say, if you can leave, leave....if you can't....work hard...yes I do agree, work hard in your own country till you can find a way out...if you want that is, if you are satisfied..stay...

You speak of would-be migrants "changing attitudes towards Singapore", but have you considered that the reverse might apply as well?
Would-be migrants typically do years of research and preparation before deciding on which country they would like to migrate to. Unlike what u've depicted, a migrant is not akin to a wandering nomad. You seem to simply migrants are people with no loyalty, no desire to sink roots. Well, while it might be true in some cases, I can tell you u've got the wrong idea in general (as with many others).
There are so many so-called less fortunate countries than Singapore, but many of my friends and I are aware that Singaporeans tend to feel less attached to our country than the citizens of these supposedly less-well-off countries. So, why are things so different in Singapore? And what would compel some Singaporeans give up the advantage of being part of a majority race, to go to a place where they are the minority? Think hard.
The thing is.. If certain pools of talent feel they are not appreciated/recognised for their contribution, and there is no room for personal/creative growth in their home country for example, how can you fault these groups of people if they find their ideal opportunity abroad? No one said any country is perfect. But you cannot expect everyone to fit into the same mould, either.
Every person has to live under different circumstances.. it is largely our experiences and personalities that define us as individuals, so let us all look at the bigger picture and respect each others' decisions in life. -

I did years of research to where I am finally going before I did my application. Now that I have one foot there, I still have to work hard and I do not have any delusions about it. The difference is that I have a circle of friends, business partners and best of all relatives over where I am going...
Also, are our forefathers to be treated as disloyal? They also left their homelands to come to sillypore to build a future...SO we are just doing what they did...following in their footsteps.
No one should be dissuaded from leaving sillypore and I will be the first one to encourage anyone who wants to leave, to leave...just as how FTs are coming here, I would certainly encourage as many FTs to come here as much as possible....think of it as a blood transfusion....
COming to sillypore may be a step up for certain people coming from 3rd world countries, so I do not begrudge them, just like how many of us are leaving for greener pastures.....greener pastures does not mean we have to work less hard....On the contrary, we have to work even harder but the benefits and rewards are even greater....as compared to sillypore -
I dun strongly agree with thaT Singapore as a small country will taste the effect of survival between local and foreign talents. No matter how this world revolves or changes we should also understand that this is our very own country singapore with it diversified race, culture and unique identity. No foreigners can merge perfectly into our multi racial society or even be more proficient in our very own establish working environment.

i dont get it what people make such a big deal about moving out of the country to work, live, etc...i think we should not Restrict ourselves to one place one country. the World is big man...go out n explore..u live once...unless u r contented with what u doing at the moment...china n indian ppl like to come here..we go elsewhere lah...everybody is moving about...big deal!
