Thread dissapointment...

who here like start a thread, would choose the most appropriate thread, sometimes there is more topic-centred Forums but you decided to post in "chit chat" so you receive a greater audience and hear out ppl's creative comments or contirbution just for your critique or for your entertainment....
so you decided to post in Chit Chat, expecting a wide audience... then first few minutes you get a few replies, interesting ones... looks like you feel satisfied because you think you have contributed to SgForums sharing your thoughts/ideas....
BUT ALAS... topic closed in less than an hour because "closer" thinks there is a old thread that it should be continued on or the "closer" thinks there is a more appropriate forum...
but you felt your thread seems to have been drowned in the noise of that old thread... or the "appropriate" forum do not have audience..
somehow a promising thread just suddenly got cut down in its prime....
who felt this disappointment before?? -
my threads have never got closed because i have always posted in my own forums......

No lah, i just mean.. sometiems one thread might not be totally related to another even though it talks about the same scope....

i believe it is necessary to post a topic in the appropriate forum depending on the nature of the topic.
reason being, chit chat can be about discussing anything. if everyone just post their threads here, there will be lots of threads coming out every now and then.
for example one open a thread, before the thread can generate a discussion, it will already be pushed down by newer threads.
so the rate of creating new threads in chit chat should slow down so that all the threads can be seen by the members and subsequently generate a discussion.
comparing chit chat 2 years ago to today. chat chit have slowed down considerably. it used to be 4, 5 pages of threads per day, many with little replies as all of them got pushed down and forgotten.
nowadays i see it's 2, 3 pages of threads per day because as the threads are closed, people started to learn to post in the correct forum. a slower pace means people will get their chit chating threads seen more often. at the same time, the other forums will have business too instead of chit chat getting all the business. -

but what about those threads that can only be discussed in chit chat, but somehow in "closer"'s opinion it should merge with a dormant thread as it has the same scope thought the TS's intention was to discuss anotehr aspect?
But dormant thread being it... ppl don't even bother to read it.

frankly, that requires a parttime/fulltime paid mod or a small team of mods. moreover, it's quite hard to draw a line at times on deciding whether a thread needs to be closed.
on the other hand, if you ever come across or remember someone's opinions/ideas/lines that are worth repeating or mentioning, you can either quote it or simply link it.

forumites shd exercise some diligence to check the first 3 pages to see if there are already existing discussions.....
dun trigger happy open new threads thinking u got the latest scoop in town......
also, there are focused forums now so pls channel ur topics to the appropriate forum....

what i can suggest is that u can create the thread in other forums. afterall there are many other chit chatting type of forums out there. although it might not receive a greater audience but one don't have to fear about "closer" closing their threads.Originally posted by Ponders:Hmm... you got a point here..

I think the specialized sub forums are really too many already.
Also, some of them are interlapping each other.
For instance,
You see 'Bar' and then 'SgSexForum' and 'SgGirls' and 'Original Babe Forum'. These are all the same thing.
Also many of the sub-forums are like mini Chit Chat culled away from the main Chit Chat. The only difference is that in those sub-forums, there are a few prominent posters, who also become the mod of those sub-forums.
Why like that?
I think sub-forums really need some housekeeping already. Just merge them, dont too many.
This is merely my observation and suggestion.

sub-forums are opened by forumites
who always like to happy happy open their own forum bcos they can be king there.........
i suggested to Admin to let only premier members open sub-forum but he say anyone can open lah!
but as u can see, oni the few good and active ones are surviving.....
so pick the right one to contribute and keep up the activities -
Posting threads on topics that should be posted in other forums steal the limelight from the other forums that it should be posted in and defeats the purpose of the other forums to be created in the first place. Woah, what a mouthful.

babe forum is a place of appreciation and discussion of celebrity babes, it is totally different from the other 3 forums above. please do not confuse yourself. -
If only selected persons can open sub-forums, where are you going to find special interest forums?
Unless you start your own members-only board @ invisionfree like some bus fans have done. -

by closing repeating threads wif same theme helps:
- forumers to focus on a topic easily;
- less spamming, often we see attention-seekers post topics merrily as if he/she want everyone to see his/her nick appear on bb board. thus doing so will remind forumers to post responsibly.
most importantly, it's the quality that counts, not quantity.
i rather read posts which are useful for discussion, not those which involve other forumers' personal matters. -
What Ponders means is that 2 threads are about the same issue, but the threadstarters have different angles for looking at the subject at hand.
