Don Muang Airport in Bangkok closes at 2.50am yesterday with its last flight taking off for Kuwait.
To me, Bangkok was more than just a neighbouring country. I began visiting Bangkok at least once a year beginning 2002 when I graduated from NUS. I remember fondly how I shutter through the city alone, on public transports, BTS, boat, buses, getting lost and then finding my way.
I will return every year to find the city triving and improving from the last year I was there. Bangkok was also a sanctuary where I will visit and quietly reflect on all that I have done for the year.
I love Bangkok for its vibrance and its unpretentious ambience and I hope things get better at the end of the year so that I can return to fulfill my yearly pilgrimage.
