Is Asian media ashamed of Asians?

I've noticed in the media that, despite only being a tiny proportion of the population, Eurasians seem to be everywhere , like Denise Keller, Ute, Paula Malai Ali, Shan Wee, Debbie Wong and Cheryl Fox.
Even Caucasians appear far out of proportion to their population.
Is Singapore and Asia so bereft of beauty and talent, that only someone with a White parent can do the job? -

Mixed race has more exotic looks. No big deal, there is no need to say 'Is asian media ashamed of asians?' A little far fetched. Normal.

i guess they have exotic looks & thus ppl tend to enjoy looking at such sweet face. beauty sells! if we are pure singaporeans & yet have such looks, advertising ppl definitely hire you for the job.

we are just abt the only country that treats its own people as second, or third class, while treating those white skinned people like they own the land.
somebody has got a serious inferiority complex.
that said, those eurasians can speak good english with a good accent, and they are armed with good looks... and everything about them is good. -
This is quite ironic for a country like Singapore, which puts so much effort into educating it's people.
All they have to do is grab a dozen pretty SG Chinese girls (and let's face it, there's lots around since there's 1,500,000 Chinese females in SG), and put them into an intensive English course for one or two months.
A kind of English language Boot Camp, if you will.
A dozen a year will easily cover all the new entrants they need for Channel 5, 8, radio, print media and MTV.
And despite stereotypes, there are plenty of big breasted Chinese girls out there too, if they want Fiona Xie/Margaret Lee/Ericia Lee/Jamie Yeo babes. However, the media is not responsible for it. Everything the media did is to satisfy viewers. Only when the market has a demand for it, then the media will push for it. -

Sad but true. I've witnessed this sort of discrmination in Singapore many times, while on the job. Sometimes casting assistants will call up modelling agencies to find suitable "talent". 90% of the time, they will say something along the lines of "I want pan-asian and caucasian only, don't send me any chinese girls. Malay or Indian can if they can pass for pan-asian. I've discussed this phenomenon with many people in the industry.
Some feel pan-asian and ang mohs appeal to a wider audience than someone typically "asian" looking, even in SE Asia. A few have speculated that it also could be due to past colonialisation of Asian countries.
Others say pan-asians and caucasians are more versatile in terms of looks and can handle any sort of lighting, while asians have a look that's too "specific" and they look bad with harsh lighting (eg our chinese-looking counterparts look washed out in mabelline advertisements compared to caucasians/eurasians or lookalikes like Aishwarya Rai) - therefore it's harder to make an asian look good in pictures or TV.
And there are some who think it's more than one of the above.
Well whatever the reason, it's still discrimination. -
