How do i create a password protected website?

  Hi~~
  
  I intend to put some important document on my website for download to only some selected person. As in only those with password could be only be allowed to download it.
  
  But how do i create this thing? Anybody have any idea on how to do this? thank in advanced.

  put the file in .zip and create a password for the zip

  email the documents to that person?
  
  use usb disk?
  
  floppy disk?
  
  why so ma fan think of such complicated methods.
