Not only GuangZhou, many cities in china have grown really fast thru the past 10 years. Really big fatories, commercial buildings, nice roads, expensive housing estates, big/advanced stadium.... etc.
But the country has advanced in a pace that the people cant catch up with it.
- ppl still pee along the road side
Along the highway it's common, what i mean is in city roads, they just get off the car and help the plants along the road to grow better with their pee
- still spit everywhere
they have already improved on this after the SARS incident, but still alot of ppl doing it.
- Most ppl ignore the traffic laws.
How many ppl really wear helmet when they ride motor cycle?
They cross the road from everywhere.
It's ok to drive in reverse direction if the TP is not around.
A 2T Lorry can carry 10T of goods.
Red lights?? some old ppl with trishaw seem to be dont understand when they should cross.
You encountered many rude/inconsiderate drivers in singapore?? Come china and drive for a few months, you will love singaporean drivers.
- Queue?
Only part of the younger generations who are more educated and more civilized know the meaning of queue.
- Public facilities?
No matter what kind of quality they are made of, they wont last long.
Actually it's very sad. But it really takes time to make people change. I only hope that the younger generations of chinese in china will not follow the bad examples, will be more civilised.
Being a Chinese as race, and being Asian, i hope that China, and the whole Aisa will grow better not only in terms of economic, not only building more metropolis, we will also be more civilized, more considerate. -

Some photos are taken from the same area, next time please conserve the bandwith and be more selective. Also, you should resize the photos smaller, please be more considerate for ADSL or Dial-Up users.
Regarding the speed of growth, yea, I think you have a point.
Many people say China is like USA one hundred years ago. It's exciting they say.
