what is life all about?

no this is not a suicidal thing, i'd just like to challenge the theory of knowledge
what is life all about?
everyone works so hard in pri. sch to get into a good secondary school, why do they want to get into a good secondary school? so that they can get into a good Poly or JC, why do they want to get into a good poly or JC? to get into a good uni. why a good uni? so that they can get good jobs. why need good jobs? so can earn alot of money and be successful. why the need to be so successful? to own a big house and a big car and a bunch of maids. whats the reason behind all this? to be happy! is this what life is all about? to be happy?
i don't believe in the chinese saying "xian ku hou tian" which is to work hard first and enjoy the benefits later. what for? you work so hard most of your life just to be happy and to lead a comfortable life? well i'm leading quite a comfortable life now as a JC student, why work so hard? i can just slacken a bit and enjoy my youth now and be happy too? why work so hard and wait for so long while i can enjoy life now? what are we persuing in life?
what is our goal in life? is it all about realising one's material dreams? why did that man jump onto the tracks? because he was poor? is that all there is in life? wealth and materials? besides wealth and everything, there is still love, friendships and others, is that not a good enough reason to live? is our world revolving around money, houses, cars, properties?
Are we guaranteed a successful life if we enter the best university in the world get good grades and get a good job? how do u define a successful life? a big fat pay? a 7 or 8 figure savings account?
so with the whole relationship web of getting into good schools and good unis u get a good job with good pay and u are happy, is it indirectly saying that by studying u will get a good job achieve happiness? well, does study make u feel happy? another question, if i play more now, does it mean i won't have a future?

honestly, i don't know what life is a about too. how could we ever know, but you know, we all just move along. it's what's to happen after we die that should worry you, after all everyone will die someday, but what's next?

See, hear & do as much as you can (lawful kind) when you are young..... because when you are older - Job(rat-race), wife, kids, bank loans & stuffs - you wouldn't be able to enjoy much anymore.......
When i was young, my family is not well off...... so in my working years, i found a love of traveling oversea..... only to find that i can't keep up anymore
..... talk to fellow scuba divers from Europe + USA + Aust. Most of them only in their early 20s..... all want to see the world before - Job(rat-race), wife, kids, bank loans & stuffs ..... so envy them..... -
A sucessful life is known when u are dying and u didn regret living the life the way u did

what is life all about?
basically,i doubt that anyone of us would know the actual answer.
we came into this world with the creation of God.
what do we all exactly live for?
i suppose everyone of us might have a different opinion towards this question.
some might think that we live just for studies and for work.
its just like a routine that everyone of us has to go through,no one can take a different route other than this.
what is life all about depends on how one actually thinks.
if you think that its all about studies and work,and that will be life.
if you think that life is all about having fun and experiencing stuffs that you can't experience the next time round,then that would be life.
i suppose none of us would know what life actually is all about.
this would be a question that would leave doubts in everyone of us
and that many of us would be wondering what life is exactly all about. -
i thought about these issues before and true, what is life about? afterall, everybody's gonna die and whatever you do in life becomes nothingness isnt it. so why bother to work so hard?
i learnt something as i grew up and went through the stages of kindergarten, primary school and secondary school. what we achieve then really seems so insignificant and unimportant to us now. it was a big deal getting first in class in p1 but if you talk about it now, its like peanuts; there are more things to worry about now. what im trying to say is that achievements do wear out and when you reflect upon them now, you wonder how you work so hard for?
my conclusion is that while life may pass, it may be worthwhile to just give the best as you go through it, live life to the fullest, and dont limit yourself to what you can do. try new things, after all, you only live life once and since you are going to die anyway, why not go take some risks, have fun, instead of stressing yourself up with academic achievements -
The truth is: almost no one can answer this question but if you have pondered about this, you more or less know where you are going and you will find your meaning in life and live it.

So do we all agree that all this about the rat race and climbing the social ladder and becoming successful in life is due to the environment that we are in? me, i'm a singaporean, but i've been studying out of singapore for 6 years now, i can sort of see the contrast between the life in singapore and the life here, the focus is way different.
is it the competitiveness of our society in singapore that is making it's individuals sort of have a different perspective in life? do we all not agree that most of our people have their goals and targets set on materialism and what nots?
Isn't love, friendship and enjoyment linked to material wealth too? beggars can't enjoy because they have little. they may not be married because no one is willing to share their woes, they may have no friends because everyone feels sorry for them?
has our society start to revolve around material wealth? is everything about money? if u had no money would u still be able to survive in our society?
do we "live to work?" or do we "work to live?"
Note: I would like to strongly emphasise that this thread is just for analytical thinking only. I am not depressed, I am not lacking in faith, and I do have a religion.
