Have you ever walked into a canteen and see the canteen fully packed with people?
Have you ever walked into public transport, buses/ MRTs full with people?
and....
From this observation, have you also seen the same canteen or the same public transport being underutilized? Meaning you will see the canteen with very few people during certain hours?
Public facilities get overutilized during certain periods and underutilized during other periods.
Seem like such inefficiency.
It will be nice if the facilities can be optimally used for all time periods.
Acherly hor,
In other public facilities such as roads (ERP) , phone (midnight discounts) , etc, price is the method used to control and make efficiency.
Do you think this can work with....canteens and MRT/ buses, etc?
For instance, lunch at 12-2pm is more expensive than lunch at 3-5pm.
There should be cross subsidy, people eating at 12-2pm pay more, to cover discounts given to people who eat at 3-5pm, for example.
Maybe, ECP (Electronic Canteen Pricing) can be installed in canteens similar like ERP for roads.
Also same with MRT and busses. The computer calculation should make more expensive charges for journeys during morning rush hour and afternoon rush hour, while giving discounts to other time periods.
What do you fink?

Singapore will be well-known wideworld for its control of people with the use of money

I don't think it will help during rush hour... No matter what, ppl still need to go to work / school... Think this different price thing will only allow them to raise price again?
#$%^&*
I know, if this pricing is implemented, maybe it will cause gastric problems for people who eat later, or work disruptions/ study disruptions for people who commute later.
But isnt it a little wierd?
If you look at canteens at lunch hour....wa.....sometimes people have to queue so long just to order food. But at 3pm or 4pm, it is so deserted anybody can just plonk down. So empty.
You will see rows of empty tables. Meanwhile at peak period, you see rows of people queueing.
Maybe, if demand cannot be controlled for canteens and public transports,
then maybe the underutilization period can be used for something else, to bring up the usage level.
For instance,
A canteen after 2pm, half of the canteen is converted into....perhaps a children playground.
Foldable chairs and tables should be used for this.
Then the space, the air-con, etc, is still used for something, and there is usage and income.
MRT, buses, well perhaps one carriage section is converted into....a retail shop. Just a small one, like those with movable tents.

Hmmm... Ya, true... The canteen and MRT thing maybe can, but bus abit hard...? Actually, maybe they can allow pets on MRT during non-peak periods...? Put in cage la... If not wanna bring pets out must take taxi... So expensive...
tomsss
not everyone can go out of the office at 2pm or 4pm to eat you know
ditzy
Damn suay lor, for the people who eat earlier.
Ristar
buy early, eat later.
FireIce
lame.

Don't be silly manz. ERP doesn't work for everything dude. Anyway, MRT is always crowded regardless of the time of the day, just that during peak hours it just gets really packed. Frequency during the so-called non-peak hours are so freaking low such that each train will always be rather full.
