http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AnniyanAnniyan (Aparichithudu in Telugu; Aparichit in Hindi) is a 2005 high-budget Tamil movie. It's the first Indian movie to be dubbed into French and then released worldwide in French-speaking countries. Columbia Tristar had recently acquired the French dubbing rights. The film was a mega-blockbuster playing for 240 days in Tamil Nadu and 150 days in Kerala. Further more Anniyan was dubbed to Hindi as Aparichit which performed averagely, considering the movie came from the southern part of the country
The movie stars the actors Vikram, Prakash Raj, Sadha, and Vivek. The film is directed by S. Shankar of Gentleman fame. The score and soundtrack, composed by Harris Jayaraj, was released on April 27, 2005.The motion picture took over two years to complete (2003 to 2005). The film was the most expensive Tamil feature film made costing Rs.26.38 crores.
Anniyan is the story of Ramanujam "Ambi" Iyengar (Vikram), a brahmin lawyer who suffers from Multiple Personality Disorder. Ambi is an innocent and honest lawyer. If he comes across anyone not obeying the rules he files cases against them but all his efforts go in vain.
His constant habit to be perfect in rules and honesty leads him to develop a Multiple Personality Disorder in which a new character in him grows as anniyan (outsider) and starts a website called
www.anniyan.com to hear people's complaints. This anniyan is a violent man and the Ambi in him whenever he comes across a person who does not obey rules he makes complaints in his website. When he is Anniyan, he goes and kills them by methods used for torturing people in hell. He apparently takes the definition of these methods from the Garuda Purana.
Influences
Influences from S. Shankar's other popular films like Indian and Gentleman have been noted. The use of the time-slice method in the film, as with The Matrix films and earlier used by Shankar in his film Nayak, as well as the Farah Khan directed Main Hoon Na, proved popular with the audience. The Special Effects were provided by Big Freeze, a department based in London. Art Direction for the film was provided by Sabu Cyril. The movie Se7en is also said to be an influence as it too deals with a serial killer who punishes those who sin.
Box Office
The film was simultaniously released in Tamil and Telugu (as Aparachitidu). Both versions were record breaking blockbusters. The film opened in 368 centres worldwide and grossed a stunning Rs.50 million in its opening week and grossed Rs. 500 million in its first 50 days and eventually grossed Rs. 145 million. . It was later dubbed into Hindi as Aparachit - The Stranger which was a flop[2](it grossed just Rs 30 million). It also became the first Indian film to dubbed into French.
Some facts:
*Imported fighters as well as martial artists from all over the state were used in the multi-opponent fight scene.
*For the first time in Indian films the time-slicing technique used earlier in "The Matrix" was used for this film. Time-slicing is about numerous stills on a camera system consisting of 120 cameras, a special ring and precise control in post-production to achieve a frozen-time effect. This film used this for an action scene superbly choreographed by Peter Haynes.
*The most expensive movie in Indian history with the budget set at 263.8 million rupees. At the end of the run, the film grossed almost three times the total, at RS 745 million.
