Best Bookstore

  What's the best bookstore in Singapore in terms of the numbers and variety of books available?
  
  Today, I went to Borders armed with a shopping list of books. I only wanted one or two but my cynical side told me to prepare a list so that I will not be disappointed. SO I did. I went to the info counter, confident that out of the 5 books I have on my list, surely -one- will be available. Of course, as it turned out, none was available. Amazing really, since this is probably the largest bookstore in terms of floor space in Singapore. -sigh-

  Not keen on using amazon coz the book is estimated to ship out between 4 - 6 weeks (meaning probably never) and the shipping charges are unbelievable. This the age of globalization? My arse.

  No, no no, I am not looking for those fine publications.
  
  I am looking for "Dusty Warriors: Modern Soldiers at War" by Richard Holmes, or

  Thanks. But really, that's no help is it? I can't read the book in the library and to photocopy the book would be an infringement of copyright.
  
  Is Singapore really this bad for people with intellectual pursuits or am I just unlucky. Story of my life i tell you.

  anyway, it depends on what type of books you are looking for.

  Well, you can approach Borders Staff, they will do an international check for you. If it is available else where, they can bring it in for you. I think it will take 2-4 weeks if i'm not wrong.
  
  I have not tried Kinokuniya service before, do they bring in titles on demand?

  Its official: Singapore isn't a very nive place for book lovers.
  
  I've tried the NLB, SAFTI Library, MPH, ACMA Books online, to no avail.

  Kino is the only bookstore that I know that sells a pretty wide variety of books.
  
  Borders sells mostly popular books, and perhaps rare to find books.
  
  MPH is more like Popular, but geared towards adults.
  
  Libraries will usually have the books you want, but is always not at that particular library where they say it was found.
