  i used to use a older version of norton. once i had a attack on my com, forgot spyware or virus. it promptly turned off the active scan i didnt believe it and i set it to ON and after a while if was switched off again
  
  aniway i couldnt clean it, had to surf net for other tools to clean it. i changed to AVG which can be found here www.grisoft.com after that. its free
