Rahman's tune sets world record as most downloaded: Airtel
Indore, Oct. 13 (PTI): The signature tune composed by noted musician A R Rehman for Airtel has been acquired from the Internet by over 80 lakh persons so far and would soon be notified as a world record as the most downloaded jingle by cell-phone users.
"The tune has been downloaded by over 80 lakh persons so far. This is a record in the world as no other tune was downloaded by cellphone users in such a large number," Airtel's Chief Operating Officer (COO) Sunil Goyal told reporters here today on the occasion of the launch of 'festive handset bundle offer' targeted at rural customers.
For the festive offer Airtel has tied up with Motorola and LG for handsets, he said.
Under the offer, by paying just Rs 1,499 customers would get a handset, an Airtel sim card worth Rs 100, talktime worth Rs 1,499 and incoming facility of one year worth at least Rs 1,800, he said, adding that effectively a customer by paying Rs 1,499 would get benefits of more than Rs 4,898.
Referring to the company's sales performance, Goyal said the company was selling more than 72,000 connections per month for the past two months and hoped the figure would double during the festive season.
Airtel, at present has 8.25 lakh subscribers in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Circle. -

Nokia ropes in Rahman for 'music initiative'
CHENNAI: Nokia has roped in music composer A R Rahman for its initiative 'Pray For Me' supporting the poverty alleviation programmes of the United Nations.
Nokia will be conducting a series of events and activities across the country to support the initiative. The proceeds generated from the activities and the sale of the album will be donated to the United Nations charity towards poverty alleviation.
The company on Friday launched the programme by presenting India's first N91 music smartphone to Rahman.
Nokia India Director, Multimedia, Gautam Advani said the company has launched two N Series phones in the country apart from the N91 and two more are expected to be launched soon, he said.
Priced at Rs 33,000, the N91 provides a 4 GB Storage space and can store upto 3,000 songs apart from a host of other advanced functions. -
