Sabres

  hi all,
  
  this question is for those of you guys who have read many chinese novels/comics/RPG games.
  
  regarding the word 'sabre', it's generally used to refer to a normal sword that's large and slight curve, and the blade is usually wide.
  
  however, the kind of 'sabre' i've in my mind is the one like a long spear, with a huge blade attached at the head. i thought that kind of weapon then is called 'sabre'? no?
  
  if not, then what kind of weapon is that? if you guys have ever seen the one carried by Guan Gong(god of war) as well as those chinese generals in comics, you'll know what i mean.

  it's should be refering to a sword-like weapon (what you describe first)
  
  Guan gong weapon should be under polearm category

  I think they call that type of weapon you are looking for "bardicle" or "bill" in Diablo 2.

  LOL..doesn't that look like the english equivalent of a halberd? TS, anyway there are a few weapons that have a "huge blade" attached to it, like the scythe ...be more specific.

  ah! the name is 偃月刀! thanks all!
  
  by the way, if you guys got play Final Fantasy IX last time and you still remember, the main character(the girl with a tail behind)....one of her weapons is a green color, double-bladed spear and the blades are very large. the handle is between the blades.
  in FF IX, anyone knows the name for that weapon?

  the chinese dao (sabre) and jian (sword) are visually and functionally distinguishable.

  that is called a halberd.
