hums are not common in meesiam though. and meesiam without chili is already spicy. -

let's actually answer the question...
it originated from the PM.. and also shows that he is living in an ivory tower where none of these "heartlander" things like Mee Siam exist... so he has no idea what he's talking about such that he just read what was written.. maybe by his speech writer, or worse, it was written by himself..
a PM divorced from the realities of the common folk he is lea-duh of.. speaks volumes about what he is, and what we common folk face.. -

PM was talking about embracing new technologies like the internet and was referencing to Mr Brown (www.mrbrown.com) infamous "Ba Chor Mee Mai Tur Kwa podcast. After the PM's speech and prior to the press clarification, Singaporeans were discussing, both in forums and kopitiam, whether PM was saying "Mee Siam Mai Hum" or "Mee Siam Mai Hiam".. which are technically both not correct as pointed out.. as Mee Siam has no hum.. and mee siam cannot be without hiam... Mr Brown subsequently made a podcast (to clarify whether is mai hiam and mai hum) by mixing PM Lee's "Mee Siam Mai Hum" with Black Eye's Pees "My Hump".. -
