If you don't mind models slightly over $1000 then I would suggest you go for Sony. They really perform man.. My previous one ran for 7 years! And we didn't even send it for any kinda of repair even once. We used it so much on top of that.. Trips to India, Cambodia, Thailand and all.. Damn reliable.
We just bought a new one. Also another Sony. comes with a 30GB hard disk. If your budget allows more then $1000 then I can post more info about these models.
And also I will highly advise you to get any kinda electronics from Mustafa.. We purchase ALL our electronics from them. Super cheap and comes with the complete package. The difference can range in hundreds of dollars man..
The current cam we bought was for $1499 in Mustafa. Harvey Norman, Best were selling it at $1749. Exactly same model, same package (warranty etc)!! The Camera is damn cool..
What we do normally is go and check out models at Harvey Norman and Best and let the salesperson explain everything nicely. Then once we decided model we go over to Mustafa and just get it from there without asking anything anymore.. Good thing is that the customer service has improved a LOT since last time in Mustafa..
