How much do you understand about Malay culture?

Not trying to cause tensions but I have a Malay friend who commented that Chinese Singaporeans doesn't seems to be understand much about Malay culture and somehow I agree with him.
So Singaporean Chinese, How much do you understand about Malay culture? No racist and discrimation comments please. -

I agree, I understand very little about the Malay culture. I have very few malay friends too.

well i'll have to agree that i don't really know much about malay culture
The only things i perceive seem to be those malays who misbehave and cause a ruckus at the void deck etc......there is a real need to set up cultural centres or something
I know that malays do have a rich culture and a vast series of interesting legends and kings but i only knew about that through a good friend who is a malay
Without him i tink i'll still know nuts about malay culture -

Just try to talk more to Malay friends though the same thing applies to the Malay,do they know much about the Chinese?

I agree, I don't know much about their culture, and I don't have many Malay Friends.
But TS should turn around and ask ur Malay friend, how much do he know about other races? -

the only thing that non-malays know abt malays are those that make a ruckus out of everything in broad daylight or not.

its only natural, I mean how much do malays know about chinese culture? legends? even for a chinese alone. its too much to take already.

Not a lot, despite having attended parties by them, hang around with them and having a neighbour who is just beside me.
Other than the routine food must be halal, their prayers, their festivals, I don't think I know much about their culture. -

I have a few Malay friends and they are nice normal family folks. I also like Malay food and make it a point to pop by JB every week to whack the Nasi Ayam and mee rubus. Cheap and damn nice.
But the small point you made regarding knowing a lot about Chinese culture and the next sentence you said you can speak fluent English...doesn't jive, leh. I would have thought you ought to say you can speak fluent Chinese..
But the above is a valid point because I ever met a Mak Chik in JB who runs the Malay stall opposite the one I used to frequent...my balls drop one day when I heard someone speaking fluent Hokkien and Cantonese to me behind my back. She was asking whether I need any drinks...when I turn around, wahaha, it was Mak Chik speaking. Her pronunciation was a spotless, juz like a Chinese old lady speaking dialect in Chinatown.
So the point I am making is, if Mak Chik can do it, so can you..
My Malay is juz a couple of words to get by when I go to JB.. -

Malay culture refers mainly to the Sejarah Melayu history book which you find the legends and kings of Malacca.
Muslim culture talks about caliphs and things from Islam.
Arabic script and Malay script so different liao. -
