My housemate's hamster just borned a new hamsters last week.
After few days, she gave all new-born hamster to her frens except the mother.
I saw the mother kept crawling and kept making sound for few hours..

yr friend shld nv give them out till they are 2-3 mths old, when they can live off mother's milk and eat solid food.

your friend is causing unnecessarily great distress to the mother hamster by removing all her babies, ur friend damn jialat leh and oslo pretty dumb, this kind of thing only need common sense to know that how much motherly love is important and how will the babies survive without milk from the mother? mother hamsters need to take care of their young for abt 2mths.
why do the mothers eat their babies?
while the mother is taking care of their young, it is advisable that the owner or any human do not come close to the cage and be curious and stare at the babies drinking milk frm the mother. when the "mother" smell humans ard, the mother feels that the babies are not hers but the babies are threats to her habitat. thus, she eats them up. so it is best that the cage be covered with a piece of cloth for ard 3weeks and minimal attention is given to them except for restoring food and water. also advisable not to change the bedding. -
actually, i think it's stress that causes the mother hamster to eat the babies...
they think they cannot take care of the babies and must replenish the protein levels for the next litter so they eat the young since they think the young will be lost anyway..
when hamsters are born, put them away in a dark corner of the house, cover with a cloth to maintain the darkness (but do not suffocate them) and put enough food and water in there for a few weeks... do not go and look at them...
after the hamster pups are weaned, meaning they can eat solid food, you can give them away -

-baby hamsters can only be given away during 2-3 months after birth.
-The hamster mother may eat the babies if she feels that she cant take care of all of them. Thus, you/your friend should provide lotsa food and water.
So please, be serious about having pets. I cant believe you actually dont know this basic info as a hamster carer.

tell your housemate to return the baby hamsters to the mother before anything happens to the mother. and dont use hands to handle the babies...in case the mother cannot recognise her babies' scent even when they are back.

Aiyah i think even if they really return all , i bet all the babies are already contaminated with human scent liao lor . If her friends know abt such precautions , they wun even accept it n should tell the giver that should keep for at least 2 - 3 months before giving away lor . So i think now even if you return all the babies , the mother wun be able to recognize liao , maybe even attack all the babies . Sigh alot of pple ony want to keep pets without proper knowledge on how to keep them lor . Some young gers even treat them as presents buy them to give as christmas presents where their reciever dun even like hamster but have no choice but to accept them first only to throw them somewhere then say oops i left them somewhere forgot to take .

i think the best is to return them to their mother. not all mother hamsters eat up their babies after they are handled by human beings. plus, do you think the babies can survive without their mother? no milk and no warmth how to live? the new owner hand-feed them and cuddle them?

It's is not just about a hamster, particularly it is about a living life, the girl seems to lack the very very basic common sense and instinct of looking after a living life, not only she is obviously not suitable to take care of pets, i dun think she will be a very good and responsible mother when in the future she give birth to kids -

it just happen dat my housemate told that the hamster gave birth.
when i knew that the babies hamster were missing, i asked and my housemate told that she's giving all to her frens.
If u think that ppl not suitable to take care of pets, dun ever compare with human! It's not the same k! I knew that it's both a living thing! BUT not the SAME!
