hokkien in singapore and in taiwan

  taiwanese speak min nan yu. we speaks fu jian yu.

  The usage of the words are different in some ways . Even if you understand hokkien , does not mean u understand min nan yu lor . But can pick up easilly if you were to listen long enuff .

  actually its about the same...most hokkien singaporeans and taiyu taiwanese share a common ancestry back in fuqian, where there are many variants of min nan yu.
  
  just that taiwan broadcast and speak min nan as a communication langauge and culture...
  
  Singapore govt slams min nan as a degortary language and tries its best to oppress people from speaking min nan language loh...
  
  i would say taiwan's min nan langauge is more mainstream...compared to Singapore's lousy malay/english/rojak/min nan langauge..
  
  Hokkien songs and hokkien drama FTW...lol... to hell with mandarin, its not even our "mother-tongue" in the 1st place... mandarin is just some dialect that was spoken up north in beijing, and we singaporeans being so pro-china have to follow them..

  taiwan ppl say>"hay-ya"

  fang su is the proper term.
  
  You read Lao Fuzi? Inside the character called dai fang su (in cantonese), the comic came from HK.
  
  Even HK uses fang su.

  Mandarin might be another dialect to you, but it is THE official tongue of the chinese for the last few hundred years?
  
  It is the elite tongue spoken by the chinese. In other words, if your ancestor studied very hard and got the zhuang yuan title, he will need to know the guan hua to converse with the officials and emperor in Beijing. Doubt the officials or emperor could understand southern dialects well.
  
  Your pro-china argument is wrong. How do you explain Taiwan, which is not pro-China, also "following" them? Official announcements in Taiwan are still read in mandarin. Even the news is in mandarin.

  there were two major contestant, Mandrain and Cantonese.
  
  cantonese for it's literature-like vocabulary.
  in the end, the ppl out north chosed mandrain. and cantonese lose out by TWO votes. imagine everyone speaking cantonese now. hhaa.

  Cantonese is closely related to the tongue in the Tang Dynasty, the golden age of China. Which is why Li Bai's poems sound good when recited in Cantonese.

  singapore cang long wo hu ya . how do u know ? surprise . . it is a real thing which happened when republic of china founded in 1912 . anyway . i think choose mandarin as official language is right . bcos 80% ppl in china speak mandarin or the similar language . canontese ?? just 2 provinces speak it . very few ppl .

  lan = everybody including the listeners
