So how gory is Flags of Our Fathers?
I know they used some nice weapons like flamethrowers and napalm at Iwo Jima... -

Well, there are some gory parts, but I don't think that should be a factor, unless she is really squeamish. That said, this is quite unlike most war movies, in that it attempts to represent the soldiers as normal human beings rather than people who became mentally disturbed or pyschologically shattered as a result of war. It also looks at how we create images and ideas of heroism and how they are manipulated for gain. Hence it can be really quite cerebral for a war movie.
On the whole, I'd recommend it, though the choice of company is the individual's decision. I have no comment on that. -

Oh well, the narrative flashes constantly between the past and the present, as well as between the heroes' war experience and their experience back in America. The major battle scenes occur some 15 - 20 mins into the film, and are indeed quite awe-inspiring, though according to my friends they were not quite so authentic.
The examples of gore are not much, like a Marine who had his guts spilling out from an abdominal wound, and the grisly aftermath of a grenade suicide by some Japanese in a cave. -

Just watched the film yesterday. In front of me was this guy watching the movie with 2 girls. This is definitely NOT a date movie. I left this movie feeling depressed. This is a very moving flick about the war and isn't exactly something you would bring your date to view. (It's supposed to be happy!)
It is really gory, moreso than saving private ryan. There are scenes of soldiers with their internal organs exposed and you can actually see the tear in their flesh and soldiers who are blasted and have their limbs strewn about and dead soldiers with their intestines entagling their face and their other organs forming a hugh lump of organic mass. Not for faint hearted! -

I wish she was a innocent civilian in the movie, next moment I hear a gunshot.

The movie did represent some parts of the book rather well, and the characters were actual people.
The part where one guy got blown up and his head fell down on another soldier... really happened. I didn't pay attention but I think they put his last words in the movie as well. -

everything was fine until it came to the scene in which a blonde got her tight t-shirt wet while rubbing the glass with a piece of cloth, the ger slapped the bf and left on the spot. -
