S'pore population now stands at 4.5mil, one-fifth are FT's

SINGAPORE: Singapore's total population at the end of June this year stood at 4,483,900.
This was an increase of 3.3 percent from the previous year.
Of this, 3.6 million were Singapore residents – made up of citizens and permanent residents – and 0.88 million were non-residents.
Releasing its latest report on Population Trends in Singapore, the Department of Statistics said figures also showed that non-resident population numbers grew by 9.7 percent in 2006 against a resident population growth of 1.8 per cent.
The department added that the ethnic distribution remained relatively stable with 75 percent Chinese, 14 percent Malays and 8.8 percent Indians, and there were 33,200 more women than men in the resident population in 2006.
As for marriage rates, 34 percent of men and 22 percent of women in the age group of 30-34 years remained single. - CNA/so -

The figure only tell us that FT is growing fast, PR alittle, SGrean no change.
Which means what? by paying ppl money to have baby doesn't work. And they are trying to increase nos. of PR, at the end when anything happen the FT and PR will go back home left the 3.6 or issit 3.2 mil ppl here, and decreasing, defending the country. -

Why, each time, the category of non-citizen is mentioned must people morbidly invoke the scenario of "they will flee the country in the event of war"? Come on! The possibility of Singapore being involved in a war is miniscule. Now every battalion on the average each section got minimum 1 foreigner sometimes up to 4.
4 out of 7 men in a section makes how many foreigners?
Hmm i am refering to infantry battalions here.

Nothing is impossible, and when it happen the first thing is shortage of food,fuel and water. Do you think FT and PR want to defend with you ? -

Even if the probability of war is very remote, the burden of defence is very real, especially for male citizens. Also, I question the government's assertion of 6 million as a viable target population for Singapore, as we are all already feeling the effects of overcrowding in this country at this stage. Given such limited land and other resources, can we really sustain such a high population? I have some doubts about that. -

Anyway wats wrong with de goverment , tell them to take de chill pill , only know MONEY MONEY MONEY , making all of us a slave , we singaporeans dont live life ... and the meaning of retirement just means , going from a full time job to a part time job .

Maybe we should equip ourselves to have skills such that we can be global. i.e. so we can pack up and go to another country to live and work if we want to. Hanging in S'pore and struggling in S'pore without alternatives is simply very jialat. If FT can come S'pore, we can always be FT to other countries lor.

i was thinking de same .... will be getting my dip by next yr june (means i will be arm with two dips , one in it and de current one im taking is in audio) , and in between dis dip im taking , im going take some other short courses , and fark off from here , i know its going be hard working in another country , but i will try my best.
