  You found a wallet and in it has enough information to return to owner, but at the same time it has about $1000 cash.
  
  It is beginning of the month, and most likely the cash was his/her wages for the month or pay.
  
  What would you do?

  Contact the owner and return the wallet with the contents intact.
  
  If I were to lose my wallet, I would certainly want whoever who finds it to do the same.

  Return the wallet anyway, and explain nicely that that was all that you found.
  
  If he doesn't accept your explanation, walk away and let that ungrateful wretch wallow in his anger. All that matters is that you did the right thing.
  
  If he dares to file a police report against you, your defence will be that if you had been a thief, you would have taken all of the money and would not be so stupid as to spend only some of it and return the rest to him.
  
  In the end... just do the right thing.
