Depending on how much rem you absorbed, some will die in a few days, others will suffer before die. This could last for year even decade.
Within 3 day, Malaysia and our surrounding neighboor will experience the radiation effect due to the pravailing wind.
Time taken to control the N fac = 1year
Time for people to recover from this ordeal= a few generations -

Nuclear plant just for cheap electricity, u must be joking
The Chenobyl nuclear plant explosion cause radiation cloud to as
far as Belgium.
Even if the nuclear plant is build in St. John islant, a radiation leak and
the wind blow to main island, we will suffer not say an explosion.
How about treating nuclear waste, so far only country like France had
the knowledge and know how to treat nuclear waste and is not cheap.

told ya hydroelectric power station would be a good alternative. Other option that i could think of is generating electricity by the sea currents (i forgot what's the method name) Using win cannot because the wind turbines are way too huge.
