ya do you realise that you two posts are different??Originally posted by freakass:Maybe you don't understand my english... Try reading this person's post....
1kg matter on the earth, you need 10N force
Let's say you weigh 60kg... It is actually 60N
Anyway his revised explaination has already successfully gotten rid of his mistakes.Originally posted by feb31:this thread is getting interesting...![]()
Hey, I am dead serious about this... Not that the press doesnt know basic maths and physics, but they have to do so because "weight" has been measured in kilograms since monkey ages ago... You can't just change it as you wish... If one day you start to see the newspaper using Newtons as the unit for weight, what do you think will happen?Originally posted by davidche:So you are saying that the press dont know basic maths and they stupidly convert 1 kg = 1 N thus 60kg=60N??
lol...sigh.....
Let's say you weigh 60kg... Actually you're wrong to say that your weight is 60kg... It is actually 60N because what you see on the weighing scale is subjected to Earth's gravity pull of 9.81 m/s^2.... However, we stick to calling it 60kg because we're all used to it... It has become a habit already... and now it has become a confusion for many people...look at this. you are so wrong in your position of subjectivity and objectivity.
Maybe the press exagerated? which has a very high chance.Originally posted by freakass:Hey, I am dead serious about this... Just think of it logically... If the "force" that the suction pump exerted on the man who drowned was 300kg... and if you really used 1kg=10N to convert this value, you will get 3000N of raw force... you know what this amount of force can do to that person? He will be sucked into the pump in whole, together with crushed bones and all....
You are so damn right about this... but why did the press use kg for describing weight? This is where the confusion started from....Originally posted by davidche:So we have to remember that the kg we earthlings are using is mass.
becos unscientifically, it is weight...Originally posted by freakass:You are so damn right about this... but why did the press use kg for describing weight? This is where the confusion started from....
actually i didnt win cos i also wrong. so its a tie.Originally posted by freakass:OK you win.
Actually I was rather harsh just now... I realised that I confused myself in the process and got everything mixed up... it's just wrong usage of the terms "mass" and "weight".... nothing to do about conversion of units....Originally posted by davidche:actually i didnt win cos i also wrong. so its a tie.
