they are different. from the phrase "free thinker", it suggests tt the person can believe whatever he/she wants to believe. for example, "all religions are real". tt can b a view point of a free thinker. but if the free thinker doesn't believe in God's existence, he/she is an atheist rather than a free thinker. there's no sitting on the fence realli, ur either a believer, free thinker, skeptic, agnostic or atheist.
