Cousins right, got some people married their cousins one lah. I cite two examples.
Example 1,
According to my SIM course lecturer, the Chinese poet of the Southern Song Dynasty, Lu4 You2, married his cousin, Tang2 Wan3. But the marriage ended up in divorce, due to the poet's mother's oppression. (I dun get this part, why would someone hate her own niece?)
Then, Tang2 Wan3 remarried. They met a few years later at a place called "Shen3 Yuan2". There, they exchange greetings and Lu4 You2 wrote a Ci, describing his agony of the divorce and his love for Tang2 Wan3.
After Tang2 Wan3 read the Ci, she also wrote one to match the one Lu4 You2 wrote earlier. After she wrote that Ci, she passed away.
Example 2,
Who watched the Chinese drama series, Han4 Wu3 Da4 Di4? The Emperor that the drama focused on, Han4 Wu3 Di4, married his own cousin, Chen2 Ah Jiao1, who is his auntie's (his father's elder sister) daughter.
So it is possible to marry your own cousin, but from genetic point of view, it sounds so wrong. Again, I'm not encourading it, neither am I discouraging it.
Oh, FYI, marriage betweem cousins is allowed in Japanese culture.
