L1R5 System question....

Firstly, for the L1, can i choose either chinese or english to be that language?
Secondly hor, besides opting for higher mother tongue, what other ways can give bonus to my points(minus some points)?? -
nono..L1 is english only..

if u choose HMT as ur L1, u cannot use MT2 or EL in ur R5

If you don't take Higher Mother Tongue, your L1 is English. No choices left.
I don't think opting for Higher Mother Tongue can minus some points...
Your only luck is to do well in your CCA. If the first 3 months still applies to you, enter the JC for the first 3 months, and choose that JC again. 2 extra points off.
Otherwise, I don't know where got extra points to minus off.. -

If so, normal MT will be counted as one of the subjects in R5, not as an L1. -

the bonus pts are not minused straightaway
it's when u have 2 ppl vying for the last seat or wat then they will consider other advantages like whether u took HMT or whether u performed well in ur CCA..... -
actually it wont. My worst subj is english.....But my school doesnt provide HMT, so if i were to study that, i have to go outside school, that will waste time and may downgrade my scores for other subjects......and given my extra bio, i have 9 subjects to handle......Plus, i may not be sure i can do absolute well for my HMT....Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Then take HMT lor... and pass well, if not your grades are going to suck big time.

Ok, I'm near 'O' levels. About the L1, you can choose your Higher mother tongue,which means higher chinese as your L1. Provided that you take Higher chinese la. To get the L1R5 points lower, you can use your CCA grades if you are active in your CCA, you will get good grades and it will deduct some points from your L1R5 and so you will get lower. Lets say you need around 20points to go Poly, but you got 22 points. If you active in your CCA, it might deduct a 1 or 2 points from the 22 so you can enter with 20 la. Understand?

chinese cant be considered as your L1.
but higher chinese can.
well i only want to tell you that dont rely on your cca to get in your jc or poly course. ya true if 2 ppl are fighting to join. they'd pick e one with more cca points or something. but relying on cca is wrong. u shld be studying.
but unless u are a 6 a1 student. and wanna go to the top schools then cca -2 pts loh.. lol. -

I'm not so sure... if where you stay is far away from a school that offers HMT... better don't take it. You will feel very tired travelling to and fro, and it will be hard to juggle remedial lessons if your school has.Originally posted by davidche:actually it wont. lol thought of the 4 pt thing, ... my previous principal said that is possible to have 0 pts
2 from cca, 2 from early jc, then the last one forget what liao. he only said once -

this is what I heard: 2 from cca, 2 from affiliation and 2 from LEP, which makes 0 points possible. only LEP has the ability to reduce from 2 to 0 pts whereas the other factors can only reduce to the max of 2.

language elective programme. higher mt in jc is considered as lep.

L1 is either your English or Higher MT.
Way to reduce the point is by taking Higher Language, Actively participate in CCA, Represent the school.
