TV licence fee

Do we have to paid it to the IRAS if we are subcribers of SCV? Coz all the channels will be from SCV which we are paying... isn't that double charging???

its not a matter of what U use to listen...its how they decide to make U pay and how strictly they enforce the rule...technically they can make U pay for using mobile radio to listen FM...but they choose not to...doesnt mean they cant.

A TV Licence is required if you operate or have, on any premise owned or occupied by you, TV sets or any equipment that is capable of receiving broadcasting services. The TV Licence is valid for a calendar year, from 1 January to 31 December and is renewable on a yearly basis thereafter. The annual licence fee is S$110.
A Vehicle Radio Licence is required for any radio receiver installed in a vehicle. A new Vehicle Radio Licence, is valid for a period of one year from the date of application and is renewable on a half-yearly or yearly basis thereafter. The annual licence fee payable for a Vehicle Radio Licence is S$27.

You are right. You pay SHCV (StarHub Cable Vision) for the channels you received. But have this in mind, who authorised SHCV to broadcast all the channels? It is MDA (Media Development Authority) The account receivable of MDA is done by IRAS.
So, don't complain to much. If you feel that those using PC/HP/MP3 to listen to radio need to pay for radio licence too, do feedback to MDA. Then maybe one day, they will charge everyone for using that.
Last thing, if you don't want to pay for TV licence, then don't pay. Just hope that you don't get caught for having a TV without licence.
