what do u mean by that? As long as the basic channels are there... it is not specifically charge but taken as a package deal....Originally posted by used:fyi starhub doesent charge for the local channels

Reminds me of a Mr Brown's blog about podcast license fee....Originally posted by Xcert:whether U have mediacorp channels or not...as long as U have a TV...then U need licence...
if U not happy with receiving mediacorp channels...U can ask SCV if they can get rid of them for U...U see whether they entertain U or not lor...
by your reasoning so all those have radio must pay license fees? like handphone radios & internet access or portable transistor radios?? then why only those inside the car must pay???Originally posted by Xcert:whether U have mediacorp channels or not...as long as U have a TV...then U need licence...

Anyone who has an scv cable point at home can watch cable tv, just need to purchase one of those descramblers, but of course that's illegal.Originally posted by hmsg:what do u mean free??? from PC???
I know inside car must pay...inside house must pay...inside boat also must pay...Originally posted by hmsg:by your reasoning so all those have radio must pay license fees? like handphone radios & internet access or portable transistor radios?? then why only those inside the car must pay???
? isnt it only in vehicles then pay?Originally posted by Xcert:I know inside car must pay...inside house must pay...inside boat also must pay...
its not a matter of what U use to listen...its how they decide to make U pay and how strictly they enforce the rule...technically they can make U pay for using mobile radio to listen FM...but they choose not to...doesnt mean they cant.![]()

its true.Originally posted by ShutterBug:I think the need for a license to own andoperate a TV, is downright dumb...!
To me it's just another money-making farce from our gov!
isn't it traceable though?Originally posted by ditzy:Anyone who has an scv cable point at home can watch cable tv, just need to purchase one of those descramblers, but of course that's illegal.![]()
I think its traceable only if you call them up and tell them to trace it.Originally posted by siaokau:isn't it traceable though?
i bet the reason why you are not complaining, yet, is because you dont pay for it.Originally posted by sgboy:You are right. You pay SHCV (StarHub Cable Vision) for the channels you received. But have this in mind, who authorised SHCV to broadcast all the channels? It is MDA (Media Development Authority) The account receivable of MDA is done by IRAS.
So, don't complain to much. If you feel that those using PC/HP/MP3 to listen to radio need to pay for radio licence too, do feedback to MDA. Then maybe one day, they will charge everyone for using that.
Last thing, if you don't want to pay for TV licence, then don't pay. Just hope that you don't get caught for having a TV without licence.
