crumper the wrapper into a small cylinder. Make sure only the golden part is espose. Than go to nearby park pick up twigs, cut into a suitable length and poke it in.

Try this:
I learnt this in secondary school by an Indian travelling book salesman.
1. Get paper.
2. Roll into a tube/ cigar.
3. Put horizontal.
4. Get scissor.
5. Cut vertical, about one third of the tube/ cigar length, cut halfway, don't cut until fall off.
6. Grab the small part you just cut.
7. Cut it open, horizontal, opening the tube. (The small part).
8. Grab it. Extend roll/ tube/ cigar out. (Lengthen it).
9. Twist abit.
10. Insert back.
11. You have a flower.

You know the Japanese style is called.....uhh....Origami?
There is an Indian style of paperfolding, forgot the name.
That flowermaking is one of it. It is real.
In fact many variations can be made from that basic technique. For instance you can make a Pagoda-like structure. Two legs, cascade up, smaller and smaller, like a Pagoda.

must it be always roses? i taught my colleague to fold paper lilies which she put a ferrero rocher in the centre of the flower, with the stick piercing the choc and decorated as a stem. -

stick as in satay stick...
not necessary to use white paper for folding mah...just buy some coloured paper or fanciful paper from florist or bookshop.
