female bosses can be rather understanding when it comes to family matters, but she must be a married one lah...
male bosses, if can click well, can be great ally and a great help to ur career -
It is hard to generalize... Afterall, each & every person is highly individual. Being male or female does not define one's character.
Having said that, I prefer a male boss..... (Generally) More professionalism, less politics. More problem-solving, less drama....
Oh... you get recognition from a male boss by getting your job done, instead of staying till 11:30pm proving to a female boss that you are 'hardworking'. -

I've had female boss and female-like-male-bosses all my life. They are always difficult people to work with and use emotional blackmail, cold wars and whatever underhand means to get their way. Mostly, they are selfish bosses and had been very happy to step on you to get to the top, some even slept around to get somewhere "better". But being females, they are superb at "presenting" their best face to the boss to avoid responsibilities for their failed projects and taking credit for everything they didn't do. The ones I had didn't have my interest or the team's interest at heart, in fact, my ex-female-bosses signed themselves on course after courses to develop themselves. When I asked to for one course per year, i was rejected because the female boss spent the training budget on herself. I always find females very anal and small minded. these female bosses easily get jealous and throw their tempers around but people put up with them because no one want to cross them. I have learnt that female bosses usually use company time to schedule lots of personal things and resolve personal conflicts and issues. Females just have so much venom for females.
Perhaps its a Singapore thing once again. People facing such kinds of lousy managers do not step up and tell the fellow off. Employees always only care about themselves, complain, and back-stab others. I had a HK colleage who called our big boss. Wished him happy birthday and proceed to ask for a raise for everyone - even if its just a joke. Its nice ... I would never see a Singaporean do that. -
seriously to be fair.....its all depends on the boss's character be it male or female.

Generalising, but male bosses.
Female bosses tend to be perfectionists, and it gets worse with pms. -

some more easy going
but depends
not all male is easy going,
and not all make good boss
and, but I can tell you
most of the time I've hard time if my boss is female -
i noticed one very obvious weakness of a female boss.
they are too eager to prove they can be as good as a male counterpart. -
