backpackin in italy alone?

anyone got gal frenz who did tt? other than pickpocket, any other factor to consider.. i'm plannin to visit rome, sienna, florence, venice and milan on a 12 days basis... i heard from some italtian tt they think it's safe, but i need some advices...

it depends one la.. your safety is up to you... don't tell me you at night still go walk dark alley.. and things like that
i have friend studying journalism(i think) in italy currently and will be there for another year or 2...and he's a nice guy...
maybe can introduce him to you over msn if you like and you find out more frmo him. -

technically if you take the neccessary precaution & be street smart, you can backpack...i'm sure alot of europeans / americans (gals & guys) do that alone. Or, you can join those Contiki tours whilst you are there, you get to travel in a group, almost all like-minded ppl, like that there's numbers & I think there's those tours that you can drop off for a while and join the next one along the route type...

Personally I have not joined Contiki cos I have not been backpacking in Europe. I have joined a similar outfit in Canada.
But heard from my colleague who went with Contiki in Europe, yah, they're a bit rowdy and that's one night after much dirnking, the guys decided to strip naked...and the gals (mostly ang mohs) were giggling and cheering them on. And my colleague (being a girl) with two friends have to absent themselves & retire to their room.
I guess you can look at it both ways, you can get fun - and you are out there, no one knows you, so why not (of course not doing the illegal stuff) but if you find it beyond your tolerance, you can just step away, cos it pretty free and very much up to the individual. I suppose that chapter is one of the more 'hiong' ones, I am sure there are other fun moments too. Personally I think its an eye opener and a swell experience. -
