why do some words have 2 different meanings

and why got words pronounce same one. cant they make a new word, this only lead to confusion in speech sometimes

you should thank morphology of words...
to make it worse.... some words in the past that are always used wrongly is now accepted into proper english.
e.g. Celtics (pronounced Keltics), but nowadays Cel-ticks is also an acceptable pronounciation.
Perverted, not a proper english word correct term should be perversed. but dictionary nowadays accept perverted as proper word.
Kleptomania,... alternative spelling Cleptomania is acceptable now. -
this is what makes it challenging to learn a language

I think words are really created by people themselves in our daily everyday life.... it is not suddenly tot of by some billiant group of professor in language...
Example:
He is a piece of Shit
and
His the shit...
is totally different meaning... its come from everyday slang... -
also becos many English words have non-english origins...
